Fall classes at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) begin Aug. 24, and registration remains open for students and community members interested in taking classes closer to home.
This fall, the Maquoketa Center and DeWitt Career Advancement Center will offer a mix of college courses, career training, and Community Education classes. The goal is simple: give more people access to EICC without requiring a long drive to another campus.
“People in Maquoketa and DeWitt should know they have real EICC opportunities right in their own communities,” said Jill Johnson, EICC’s DeWitt and Maquoketa Center facilitator.
“Students can start earning college credit close to home, adults can build new skills, and local businesses can connect with training for their teams. These centers belong to the communities they serve, and we want more people to use them,” Johnson added.
In Maquoketa, students can take general education and introductory courses in town. Fall offerings include Composition I, College Algebra, Public Speaking, American National Government, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Medical Terminology, Nutrition, Children’s Literature, and Introduction to Accounting.
The fall schedule also includes Anatomy and Physiology classes, as well as workplace safety courses.
The DeWitt Career Advancement Center offers a different mix of opportunities, including general education courses, career preparation, workforce training, and hands-on learning.
This fall, students can take Public Speaking, Medical Terminology, and Nutrition in DeWitt, giving them another way to complete general education courses close to home.
Area high school students can earn college credit through Career Academies in agriculture, construction, healthcare, software development, and small business management.
Adults can also take short-term training and Continuing Education classes in DeWitt. Current offerings include CPR, OWI education, and Phlebotomy. The center also hosts part of EICC’s Process Technician program, also known as P-Tech, which prepares students for technical roles in manufacturing and other process-based industries.
Community Education classes are available at both locations and cover practical, creative, and personal interests. Offerings change throughout the year and may include classes such as Canva Year in Review, Blind Date With a Book, and Graduation Party Prep.
Local businesses may also work with EICC’s Business Solutions team to explore site-based training for their workforce.
