Clinton Fire Department (CFD) units were dispatched to 574 1st Ave. for a reported structure fire. CFD responded with one ladder truck, two engines, two ambulances, and one command vehicle, staffed by 9 firefighters. One ambulance was at a different medical emergency at the time of dispatch. The Camanche Fire Department was dispatched for automatic aid with a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). Clinton Public Works provided barricades, and Alliant Energy secured the utilities.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from second-floor windows. Initial fire attack was conducted from the exterior of the structure, followed by interior operations to complete extinguishment. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. Crews remained on scene for approximately one hour extinguishing hot spots.
One cat was confirmed deceased as a result of the fire. No other injuries were reported.
The Clinton Fire Department was assisted on scene by Clinton County Communications, the Clinton Police Department, the Camanche Fire Department, Clinton Public Works, and Alliant Energy.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
