Camanche Assesses Infrastructure Damage Due To Flooding

Camanche City Administrator Andrew Kida says damage to city infrastructure due to flooding is now estimated at about $340,000 and could go higher.  Much of the damage is related to sewer line collapses due to flood water infiltration into the lines. Further damage and more precise repair costs can not be determined until the Mississippi recedes further.

Kida prepared a report of the damage for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

He says the city will be seeking federal funds for the repairs since the County has been declared a Federal Disaster Area.

Kida says the community could get 75 percent of the cost of repairs from the federal government and another ten percent from the state.

The Camanche City Administrator says the city is also preparing a mitigation plan to prevent future issues.  Kida says that plan could cost 3-million dollars.  He says the community will also seek federal funding for those projects.

A copy of the initial 56 page report has been posted on the Camanche City website.

Kida says the damage estimate is for public property and does not include private property.
