January In Top 15 For Warmest With Average Snowfall

January will be the 14th warmest January in the Clinton weather records to 1879.  Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature for the month was 28.5 degrees.  He says that’s about six degrees above the normal of 22.4.

The highest temperature for the month was on the 9th with a 56-degree day according to the weather observer.  The coldest temperature was one-below-zero on the 19th.  Blaess reported it was the only day with zero or below temperatures.  The normal is five days with zero or colder temperatures.  He pointed out that last year there were 8 days in January with zero or colder weather.

Blaess recorded 1.44 inches of precipitation.  He says that’s about the normal of 1.45 inches.  Snowfall was 8.9 inches which Blaess says is about the normal of 9.4 inches.

He did point out that in January of 2019 there was 21 inches of snow.

For the season of October through January, Blaess says there has been 19.8 inches of snow and that matches the normal over that period,

In another comparison with last winter, Blaess says during that October through January there was 36.9 inches of snow.

In February, Blaess says you can expect 1.63 inches of precipitation with 7.6 inches of snow.  He says there is also an average of 3 days of zero or below temperatures.

Blaess says temperatures do rise from an average of 32 and low of 15 on February first to averages of 41 and 24 by the end of the month.

The weather observer added that there is more sunlight hours during the month with sunrise at 7:14 and sunset at 5:18 on the 1st and sunrise at 6:38 and sunset at 5:52 at end of the month.
