December Was Warmer Than Normal

December was warmer than normal and had about the normal amount of snow according to local weather observer Jim Blaess.

He says the overall temperature for the month was 30.6 degrees.  Blaess says that’s 4.1 degree above the normal for the month of 26.5.

The lowest temperature occurred on the 25th when it was 5 degrees.  There were not days with zero or below temperatures and the normal is 3 days.

There was a record high on the 23rd when it reached 60.  Blaess says that broke the record for the date of 59 set in 1941.  It reached 59 on December 10th which Blaess says tied the record high for the date set in 1911.

Precipitation for December was 1.86 of an inch which Blaess says is slightly above the normal of 1.82 of an inch. The weather observer says there was 8 inches of snow which is just below the average of 8.7 inches.

For 2020, Blaess says the overall temperature was 52.2 degrees.  He says that’s 1.8 degrees above the normall of 50.4.

During year, Blaess says there was 35.53 inches of precipitation which is about the average of 34.25 of an inch.

For January, Blaess says you can expect 1.45 of an inch of precipitation which includes 9.4 inches of snow.  He says there is also an average of 5 days with zero or below temperatures.

Blaess says the average high on January 1st is 30 the low 15 and by the end of the month those averages are 32 and 15.
