No ‘spikes’ in local covid cases is good according to local health official

Clinton County Public Health Manager Michelle Cullen says the number of coronavirus cases has been consistent in recent days.

Cullen reported to the County Board Monday morning that over the past ten days there have been between 16 and 20 new cases a day and that’s been about the same for a few weeks.  She also noted the number of active cases has declined and the hospitalizations have declined locally.   She call that consistency a good sign.

She said Clinton County was initially provided with 1,400 doses of the vaccine. Cullen said the public health agency has used 300 of the 400 initial doses of vaccines the agency had allocated for the direct health care workers.  She said in the initial allocation the other one-thousand doses were provided to the Mercy Hospital for their various workers but she hadn’t received an update yet on the hospital’s distribution.

Cullen agreed that sending out some public notices would be a good step.

Cullen said it could be another 3 months before the vaccines is available to the general public – but again – that is unknown.

Cullen told the Supervisors they are not holding back doses for the second dose for those receiving the first shot.

Cullen said they are continuing to plan for the next tier of vaccinations and how to distribute it.
