January was warmer than normal

January ended up over 3 degrees warmer overall than average.  Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was 26 degrees.  He says that’s more than 3 degrees above historical average of about 22.4 degrees.

The highest temperature for the month was on the 13th when it was 41 according to the weather observer.  Blaess says the coldest was one-below zero on the 28th.

There was one other day when it reached zero – make two days with zero or colder weather.  Blaess says the two days compares to the normal of five days in January with zero or colder temperatures.

Blaess says there was 12.3 inches of snow compared to the normal of 9.4 inches.

For the October thru January snow season to date, Blaess says there’s been 22 inches of snow.  He says that is above the normal for the period of 19.8 inches snow.

Bleass added that after a 7 inch snow in late December the Clinton area has had at least a six inch snow cover since December 29th.

Blaess says for February you can expect 1.63 inches of precipitation with 7.6 inches of snow.

He says the average high on February First is 32 and average low is 15. Blaess says those rise to averages of 41 and23 by the end of the month.
