Specialty Beef Processing Plant Proposed In Camanche

A Clinton County family farm operation wants to move their cattle through a small processing plant in Camanche.

The Naeve Family is proposing the ten million dollar investment in Camanche to process 40 to 50 head of cattle per day in the specialty operation.  The location would be on 7th Avenue and Highway 67 near the Ipsco Plant.  Andrew Naeve said the location would employ 40 to 50 workers.   He said they would operate one shift during normal business hours.  Naeve said the access to the highways for transportation and access for employee were factors and called Camanche a great community.

Naeve said their operation in Clinton County could supply about half the projected volume.

Naeve said the plant would be for farmers who want to market directly to restaurants, grocery stores and consumers.

Naeve said the facility will be USDA inspected with a full-time inspector at the plant.

There will be a local retail space for consumers to buy products on-site.  He said they would hope to partner with other local food producers to offer more products at the site.

Naeve said they hope to start construction this spring and be in operation by the end of the year.

Camanche City Administrator Andrew Kida says the site is the urban renewal area and eligible for a property tax abatement.  He said that abatement was eligible to be used at a match for other grants.
