11th Warmest March In Clinton Weather Records

Last month ended as the 11th warmest March in Clinton weather records to 1879 according to Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess.  He reported the overall temperature averaged at 44 degrees.  Blaess says that compares to the average for the month of 39.3 degrees.

Blaess added that March of 2020 is the 12th warmest March in the records.

The weather observer says the warmest days in the month were the 9th and 10th with 70 degree highs. The 70 on the 9th was a record for the date -breaking the mark of 69 set in 1977.

The lowest temperature was 15 degrees on March 2nd.

Blaess says there was 1.63 inches of precipitation in the month.  He says that’s below the normal of 2.24 inches.  Blaess says it also included 2 inches of snow and sleet on the 15th.  The normal for frozen precipitation in March is 3.1 inches.  During the first three months of the year there has been 4.1 inches of precipitation.  Blaess says that is below the average of 5.32 during the January-February-March period.

Blaess says for the snow season of October thru March there has been 36.7 inches of snow.  That, he says is 6.2 inches above normal for the period.

In April, Blaess says there is an average of 3.05 inches of precipitation including an average of half-an-inch of snow.  But the weather observer pointed out that last March there was 3.8 inches of snow.

Blaess says the average high on April 1st is 57 and the average low is 35 and those rise to 69 and 46 by the end of the month.
