Violinist Andrew Sords will be the guest artist with Clinton Symphony Orchestra Saturday to perform the Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms. Sords and the orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Centennial Auditorium at Sterling High School.
Sords is an artist of international reach, having appeared with acclaimed orchestras and on distinguished recital series throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, touring in nearly all 50 states as well as dozens of performances in both Canada and Mexico.
He makes his home in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and his appearance with Clinton Symphony is made possible by a grant from Sterling’s CGH Medical Center.
Saturday’s concert is the Symphony’s annual performance in Sterling. In partnership with Community State Bank of Rock Falls, the Symphony offers a bus for Clinton patrons, through Fulton and Morrison, to the Sterling concert. Bus reservations are available by calling 563-503-4886.
The concert will open with the overture to a Mozart opera, La Clemenza di Tito, composed in the final year of his short life. It will be followed by a Sinfonietta, composed by J. Scott McKenzie, conductor of the U.S. Army Band (Pershing’s own). The piece is dedicated to Silas Nathaniel Huff, Clinton Symphony’s conductor and music director.
The violin concerto will conclude the concert after intermission.
Admission to the concert is by season ticket, or $20 for adults at the door. All students are admitted free of charge, and a student’s adult companion may apply for a half-price ticket.
This is the second concert of the orchestra’s seven concert, 73rd season. Musicians of the orchestra include many area music teachers and adult musicians. Support for the orchestra comes from ticket sales, contributions, and grants.
The Symphony’s website at www.clintonsymphony.org has up-to-date information, and program notes for the music to be played.
