Robber Bridegroom Opens at Timberlake Playhouse

MOUNT CARROLL – Timber Lake Playhouse (TLP), the premier professional summer theatre of northwest Illinois, continues its 60th Anniversary Season with the bluegrass musical, The Robber Bridegroom with music by Robert Waldman and book and lyrics by Alfred Uhry.  The Robber Bridegroom is a rousing, comical Southern fairytale from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Driving Miss Daisy! It’s one of the only genuine bluegrass scores ever heard in a Broadway musical.

The cast features Jack Hale as Jamie Lockhart, the Robber Bridegroom, Quinn Martin as Rosamund, Darren Mangler as the rich planter, and Margot Frank as Salome, the evil step mother. The entire TLP Resident Company will round out the remainder of the ensemble.

Jack Hale and Quinn Martin were interviewed on Gary in the Morning. If you missed the interview, you can listen by clicking the play button on the player below.

Set in eighteenth-century Mississippi, the show follows Jamie Lockhart, a rascally robber of the woods, as he courts Rosamund, the only daughter of the richest planter in the country. The proceedings go awry, however, thanks to a case of double-mistaken identity. Throw in an evil stepmother who’s intent on Rosamund’s demise, her pea-brained henchman and a hostile talking head-in-a-trunk, and you have a rollicking country romp.

“The Robber Bridegroom boasts some of the most authentic blue grass music to emerge from a Broadway musical,” said Paul Stancato, Artistic Director.  “I am excited for our audiences to hear it live”-

The production is directed by TLP Executive Director, Dan Danielowski. Music Director is Michael McBride and Choreographer is Emma Resek. “I have had a long relationship with this show,” said director, Dan Danielowski. “I am pleased to bring this story to our TLP audiences.”

Special events during The Robber Bridegroom will include the Page to Stage Talkback after the August 6 performance, Company Cabaret on the Lake Stage after the July 7 performance and the Deck Bar will be open for food, drink and entertainment before each weekend show.

Don’t miss all the exciting events at Timber Lake this summer.  For more information, visit the TLP website at www.timberlakeplayhouse.org or call the Box Office at (815) 244-2035.  The box office is open from 10:00 – 5:00 and until intermission on show days.
