Clinton, Iowa – July 7, 2025 – The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre is thrilled to announce
its summer production of Bright Star, a sweeping tale of love, loss, and redemption set against
the backdrop of the American South. Performances will run from July 17 through July 27
aboard the historic Clinton Showboat.
Written and composed by Grammy-winning artist Steve Martin and chart-topping singer
songwriter Edie Brickell, Bright Star tells a powerful story inspired by real events. Set in the
Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina in the 1920s and ’40s, the musical follows literary
editor Alice Murphy as she navigates a connection to a young soldier returning home from
World War II—unraveling a tale that holds the key to her own mysterious past.
“Bright Star is a beautiful blend of bluegrass, Americana, and heartfelt storytelling,” says
Courtney Ryan Crouse, Artistic Director of the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre. “It’s a story
about hope and the enduring power of love and forgiveness. We can’t wait to share it with our
audiences.”
Featuring a talented cast and live band, Bright Star brings rich melodies, dynamic
choreography, and emotional depth to the stage in one of the Showboat’s most anticipated
productions of the season.
