Multiple Whiteside County first responders were called to a crash involving three vehicles and a bucket truck on Route 84 this morning. Whiteside County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call about a four-vehicle traffic crash on Illinois Route 84 near the intersection of Lock Road in rural Fulton on July 21 at about 6:15 a.m.
Deputies and the Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated and learned that a white Freightliner bucket truck owned by MidAmerican Energy and driven by Nathan Brown, 27 of Elizabeth, was driving northbound on Route 84 just south of Lock Road. The truck crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane, where it struck two oncoming vehicles, a Kia sedan and a Buick crossover. A Dodge crossover that was also southbound at the time struck the engine of the Kia, which detached during the initial collision.
The driver of the Kia was airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Buick was taken to a hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge was not injured.
Brown was cited for improper lane usage. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. Deputies were assisted at the crash scene by the Fulton Police Department, Fulton Fire & EMS, Thomson Fire & EMS, MedForce Air Medical Transport, Downtown Auto Clinic, J&S Body Shop and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
