The Clinton Fire Department will join fire departments across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week, October 5–11, 2025. This year’s national theme, established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home.”

The campaign focuses on the safe use, charging, and disposal of lithium-ion batteries, which are increasingly common in household devices such as phones, laptops, e-bikes, and power tools.

Fire Safety Tips from the Clinton Fire Department:

Install smoke alarms on every level of your home and inside all bedrooms.
Test alarms monthly and replace batteries at least once a year.
Create and practice a home fire escape plan with your family.
Keep matches, lighters, and ignition sources out of children’s reach.
Charge lithium-ion batteries safely—use manufacturer-approved chargers and avoid overcharging.

“Fire prevention begins at home,” said Assistant Chief – Fire Marshal Greg Forari. “This week is a great opportunity for families to review their safety plans, check smoke alarms, and learn how to safely use everyday technology like lithium-ion batteries.”
