CO₂ Leak Response at Local Restaurant

At 1200 hours the Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to Arby’s at 2595 Lincoln Way for a structure fire. Due to high call volume, with four active emergency incidents occurring at the time of dispatch, Clinton Fire Department units were initially committed to other calls. As a result, the Camanche Fire Department was dispatched for mutual aid for the reported structure fire. As soon as possible, the Clinton Fire Department units cleared from prior incidents and arrived on scene shortly thereafter.

Upon arrival and investigation, crews determined the incident involved a carbon dioxide (CO₂) leak, not an active fire. The leak occurred while a CO₂ system was being filled, during which a vapor release hose ruptured, allowing CO₂ to discharge into the building.

Fire personnel confirmed that most occupants had already evacuated prior to their arrival and ensured the structure was fully evacuated to maintain the safety of all occupants. Crews then utilized positive pressure ventilation to remove the accumulated CO₂ and restore safe atmospheric conditions within the building.

Air quality was continuously monitored until safe levels were confirmed and the leak was mitigated. The building was then secured. The business will remain closed until necessary repairs to the CO₂ system are completed.

No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
